Campus Management, Empower Financials Sign Exclusive
Worldwide License Agreement
Already in use at universities throughout
North America, Empower's financial and HR software will be re-branded
by Campus Management and integrated with its student information system
(Boca Raton, FL- October 3, 2005) – Campus Management
Corporation, a leading provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP)
software for higher education, today announced a licensing agreement
with Empower Financials Inc. (Ann Arbor, MI), an established developer
of financials, payroll, and human resources software. Under terms
of the agreement, Campus Management now has exclusive worldwide rights
to develop and distribute the Empower Financials and Personnel software
products in its served markets. This includes full source code rights,
enabling Campus Management to pursue a new roadmap for the suite’s
future, one dedicated to the particular needs of higher education.
Campus Management has branded the new solution as CampusVantage™
Financials and HR. The company will issue the first in a wave of significant
new enhancements of the CampusVantage suite in the first quarter of
2006—including enhancements of special value to higher education.
CampusVantage will be available as a stand-alone solution, as well
as an integrated suite within Campus Management’s CampusVue™
and CampusVue Collegiate™ enterprise systems.
“We have made significant investments in our financials and
human resources business,” said Tim Gilbert, vice president
of marketing for Campus Management. “We have an aggressive timetable
to expand our software in the financials and human resources arena.
This new product creates an opportunity to further leverage our competencies
in financial aid packaging, compliance, student accounts, and other
funding and transactional areas,” said Gilbert.
In addition to CampusVantage, Campus Management also sells and supports
Microsoft Dynamics-GP (Great Plains), another financial and human
resources software, that integrates with its student information system.
In a related announcement, Shelly Tollefson has been named to a newly
created position, as Solutions Manager-Financials and Human Resources,
for Campus Management. Tollefson joined the company in September and
will lead an expanded, dedicated team of developers, support, and
consulting professionals, also being formed. Tollefson came from Lawson,
where she held senior positions as a business analyst and product
development manager for its human resources and payroll offerings.
Prior to this, she was a lead consultant with a Chicago-based firm
working on their JD Edwards financials implementations.
“There are distinct brand and platform preferences in higher
education,” said Tollefson. “Differing philosophies, methodologies,
and goals of universities and colleges call for different kinds of
answers. Dynamics-GP is highly configurable and Microsoft is deeply
invested in the public sector. Those combine to make Dynamics-GP the
right fit for business officers who appreciate best-in-breed technology,”
Tollefson said.
“CampusVantage features all the necessary functionality, automated
workflows, and key Web-based services that are essential to many of
the institutions who approach us today for our expertise in student
information solutions. The user interface has been re-designed to
mirror our ERP system’s look and feel, it offers great value
for the money, and it is the right solution for business officers
who want a wholly unified interface across all of our ERP applications.”
Empower Financials’ product suite features rich functionality
to address the finance, fund accounting, grant, and HR workflows at
most higher education institutions, presenting a powerful “value
for money” argument. Microsoft’s Dynamics, meanwhile,
provides a wide range of configurability, comprehensive analytics,
and the backing of the Microsoft Business Solutions name.
About Empower Financials
Empower Financials was incorporated in 1983 in Ann Arbor, MI to provide
accounting, payroll, and distribution software to what was then an
emerging market for packaged software. The founders of the company
had a number of years experience in providing quality software and
service for one on the world's largest payroll and accounting service
corporations, Automatic Data Processing (ADP), and they formed Empower
Financials to bring that expertise to the packaged software industry.
Its first products were targeted for medium and large corporations,
running on mainframe computers. The initial success of the company
came from meeting the complex requirements of many large organizations,
including the world's seventh largest coal company, Macy's Department
Stores, multinational paper companies, educational institutions, and
a host of smaller, yet complex installations.
Beginning in 1993 with the emerging dominance of the Windows operating
system, the company introduced the Empower Financials product line,
incorporating the functionality required by complex organizations,
but with a friendly, easy-to-use Windows interface. This duality of
experience and power, combined with Empower Financials' capabilities
with multiple database managements systems (Sybase, SQL Server and
Oracle) provided scalability, enabling Empower Financials to service
a wide variety of organizations, from a small company with 50 employees
to a publicly traded billion dollar transportation company. For more
